Wildlife at Mohican State Park
The varied habitats, including forests, rivers, and meadows of Mohican support a diversity of wildlife including white-tailed deer, skunk, opossum and red fox. Eastern red-backed salamanders, American toads, and spring peepers are samples of local amphibians. Wild turkey has made a tremendous comeback in Ohio after being totally absent at one time. Now, significant numbers can be found in the surrounding forest.

Red Fox
The red fox is one of two fox species in Ohio. The state's other fox is the gray fox. Red foxes are mostly nocturnal, meaning that they are most active at night, feeding and moving from place to place. Even though they are nocturnal, they can still be found hunting during daylight hours. The scream of a red fox can be mistaken for a woman's scream.

Mohican Cherry Millipede
The Mohican Cherry Millipede gets its name from the place where it was described from, Mohican State Park. Living only in the Unglaciated Appalachian Plateau region of Ohio, it is uncommon, with definitive records from three counties: Ashland, Athens, and Hocking. This millipede can be found under leaf litter and rocks within moist deciduous forests and sandstone ravines shaded by hemlock trees.

Warbler Wonderland
Birders will also enjoy the abundance of nesting warblers in the Clear Fork Gorge. More than 20 species including northern parula, hooded, cerulean, American redstart, black-throated green, along with opsreys and eagles - nest here during spring and summer.
