Inscription.

This castle was built on a motte in 1210 by John de Grey originally consisting of a central donjon it was altered and enlarged many times. The castle was badly damaged in the bombardment of 1691 during the Williamite War. On the 28th Feb. 1922 the castle was taken over from British forces by Lieut. General Sean M[a]cEoin on behalf of the Provisional Government. The castle was named after Brigadier George Adamson who was shot dead on the
25th April 1922.
