Inscription.
Settlement of Orwell was made by Apollos R. Paine April 1, 1817.
Organized as a township July 4, 1826.
First township officers:
Trustees: Alanson Spalding, Joseph Chandler, Jr., Salmon Chandler.
Township Clerk: Lyman Richards. Township Treasurer: John Babcock.
In honor of Orwell citizens who answered our country's call in her hour of need.
