Bhí sé mar bhall de Bhráithreachas na
hÉireann, d'Óglaigh na hÉireann,
agus bhí sé ina theagaseóir leis na Fianna Éireann.
Bhí se ina cheannaire ar an Éirí Amach i gContae
na Gaillimhe agus ina Teachta Dála sa
chéad Dáil. Ghníomhaigh sé mar Stiúrthóir
Ceannacháin don IRA le linn Chogadh na Saoirse.
Bhí sé ar thaobh na bPoblachtach sa
Chogadh Cathartha agus bhí sé ar dhuine den
Gharastún sna Ceithre Cúirteanna. Bhí sé
ina Aire Cosanta Poblachtach nuair a
cuireadh chun báis é ar an 8 Nollaig, 1922.

Liam Mellows
1892-1922

Member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood,
Irish Volunteers and Instructor with Na Fianna Eireann.
He was a leader of the Rising in County Galway
and a T.D. in the First Dail. He was Director of Purchases
for the IRA during the War of Independ[e]nce.
He was on the Republican side in the Civil War
when he was a member in the Four Courts Garrison.
He was the Republican Minister for Defence when
he was executed on the 8th December, 1922.
