1. Alonzo Cushing Marker
Inscription.
Alonzo Cushing was born January 19, 1841 in Delafield, Wisconsin. When Alonzo's father died, 6 year old Alonzo moved to Fredonia with his mother and four siblings to be closer to his father's family. Alonzo attended the Fredonia Academy while growing up in Fredonia - while under the watchful eye of his uncle Dr. Squire White. Alonzo was fortunate enough to win a placement at the United States Military Academy at West Point in the summer of 1857 at the age of 16. Alonzo eventually graduated from West Point in June of 1861 and immediately was placed in active duty as a 2nd Lieutenant of Artillery. "Lon" as he was known to hisfriends, served with distinction through the first twoyears of the Civil War until his final battle at the Battle of Gettysburg.

Lon was wounded three times during Pickett's Charge on July 3, 1863 until eventually dying of his wounds. For defending "the Angle" at Gettysburg on that July day, Alonzo was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor by President Obama on November 6, 2014 in a ceremony at the White House. in June of 2006 under the direction of Technology Teachers Roger Pacos and Greg Haase. Cushing's Grandfather Zattu Cushing and Uncle Squire White are both buried only feet awayfrom this monument.
