1. The Fairfield Manor House Marker

Inscription. Prior to the mid-19th-century the western facade of the Fairfield Manor House would have been structurally symmetrical to the rest of the house. Sometime around 1840 the west wing was removed and replaced with a gable that stood flush with the southern portion of the building. The break between the house's two phases can be seen in the change of the belt course thickness to the left of the door. The decorative belt course above the door transom of the addition created a new and formal entrance that possibly served visitors arriving from Carter Creek. This treatment does not appear on any other doorways.
