Inscription.
Hiram Dugger came to Benton County, Alabama, in 1832 from Carter County, Tennessee, before the Indians were removed to the west. He worked a year for Joseph Nolen before marrying Mr. Nolen's daughter, Zanna. The couple moved to the base of the large mountain, which became known as Dugger Mountain, and remained on the land until their death. Hiram Dugger died August 24, 1895.

The Duggers are buried at Wilson Cemetery in Vigo, within sight of Dugger Mountain, Alabama's second highest peak at 2,140 feet above sea level.
