1. École Normale St-Joseph Marker
En 1870, la communauté acheta un terrain de 6 acres face à la rivière et y fit construire cinq ans plus tard, sur l'actuelle rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste, un pensionnat de jeunes filles, l'académie Nôtre-Dame-de-Grâce. Peu de temps avant sa mort, le Père Reboul surveilla la construction de ce couvent qui disparut dans la conflagration de 1888.
Un couvent de pierre ayant façade rue Notre-Dame Je remplace en 1890, auquel s'ajoutèrent en 1909 l'École normale Saint-Joseph destinée â la formation des institutrices, et l'école annexe, école primaire privée servant aux travaux pratiques des normaliennes.
Mgr Joseph Charbonneau, célèbre pour ses démêlés avec le Premier ministre Duplessis, fut principal de l'École Normale durant les années trente.
En 1950, l'École Normale perdit quatre religieuses dans un violent incendie qui détruisit l'ancienne partie du bâtiment. Les flammes, encore une

Ouverte en 1909, l'école forma pendant près de 60 ans la plupart de institutrices de la région. De Carlsbad Springs à Maniwaki, de Fort-Coulonge à Saint-André-Avellin, les jeunes filles venaient y recevoir un enseignement de qualité.

Cette photo montre clairement les trois étapes de construction de l'édifice. La rallonge construite à l'épreuve du feu en 1931, angle Saint-Laurent et Notre-Dame, fut épargnée par l'incendie de 1950.
3. Érection de la Croix du Souvenir (ANQH, Fonds Ville de Hull)
La Croix du Souvenir avait été érigée sur ce site même lors des fêtes de la Saint-Jean-Baptiste de 1936 organisées par le journaliste Henri Lessard et le Cercle Redoul.
4. Incendie du 18 mai 1950 (Archives s.c.o.)
En plus de semer mort et consternation sur son passage, le feu causa des pertes considérables. Fait remarquable, la reconstruction de l'école fut achevée à temps pour la rentrée de septembre suivant.

2. École Normale St-Joseph Marker
The marker is located on the south side of the subject building.
In 1870, the community purchased a 6-acre plot of land facing the river and, five years later, built a girls' boarding school, the Nôtre-Dame-de-Grâce Academy, on what is now Saint-Jean-Baptiste Street. Shortly before his death, Father Reboul oversaw the construction of this convent, which disappeared in the conflagration of 1888.
A stone convent with a facade on Notre-Dame Street replaced it in 1890, to which were added in 1909 the Saint-Joseph Normal School, intended for the training of teachers, and the annex school, a private elementary school used for the practical work of the normal students.
Mgr Joseph Charbonneau, famous for his disputes with Prime Minister Duplessis, was principal of the Normal School during the 1930s.
In 1950, the Normal School lost four nuns in a violent fire that destroyed the old part of the building. The flames, once again, destroyed Hull's heritage.

This photo clearly shows the three stages of construction of the building. The fireproof extension built in 1931, at the corner of Saint-Laurent and Notre-Dame, was spared by the 1950 fire.
3. Erection of the Memorial Cross (ANQH, City of Hull Fund)
The Memorial Cross was erected on this very site during the Saint-Jean-Baptiste celebrations of 1936 organized by the journalist Henri Lessard and the Redoul Circle.
4. Fire of May 18, 1950 (Archives s.c.o.)
In addition to leaving death and consternation in its wake, the fire caused considerable losses. Remarkably, the reconstruction of the school was completed in time for the start of the following September.
