1. Trees Marker
Inscription. When DuPont began producing black powder, this area had abundant willow trees. The trees' branches were stripped of bark and burned to create high quality charcoal—one of the three ingredients of black powder. The job of stripping willow branches was often completed by women whose husbands, fathers, and other family members worked in the yard.
