In 1945 ladies from Fort Howard, Todds Farm, and Penwood Terrace who had loved ones serving in WWII decided to honor them with a Monument!
They went door to door collecting money and names to put on the Monument. They were successful in this quest! The Monument was ordered, and was installed in front of the Fort Howard Elementary School.
In the minutes of the December 5, 1945 meeting of North Point #4 I.O.O.F., there was a request from the PTA of Fort Howard Elementary School to borrow the lodges folding chairs for the use in the ceremony to be held the following Sunday, December 9, 1945 to dedicate the Monument. The request was granted. At that time a motion was made for the Lodge to place a wreath on the Monument at the ceremony and then on every Memorial Day in perpetuity, they have honored this commitment.
On the Monument the 154 names of community members who served. Two of them are women. The 7 names marked by stars made the ultimate sacrifice.
