1. Midway Marker
Inscription. Midway, which takes its name from being half way between Nashville and Franklin, was built in 1846 to replace an earlier home destroyed by fire. It was built by Lysander McGavock, who married Elizabeth Crockett, daughter of the original owner of the land. Once the home to pre-historic Indians, Midway served as headquarters to generals from both sides during the Civil War, and its grounds were the scene of several skirmishes. Water was piped from its spring to the construction site when the railroad cut was dug in Brentwood. The house is home today of the Brentwood Country Club.
