1. Brick Kitchen Marker
Inscription.
Built on the original foundation, this building is a replica of the plantation kitchen that stood here until the late 1950s. It was one of eight brick buildings that once flanked the house.

As in homes today, the 19th century kitchen was a hub of activities including cooking, cleaning and conversing. Unlike the indoor kitchens of today, cooking, washing and other chores were often performed outside the kitchen in the yard. The enslaved cooks that worked in the kitchen acquired skills for preparing and serving elaborate meals for the Bratton family and their guests.
