Excerpt: The North West Company was the main rival in the fur trade. The competition led to the small Pemmican War in 1816, which culminated in the Battle of Seven Oaks on 19 June 1816. In 1821, the North West Company and Hudson's Bay Company were forcibly merged by intervention of the British government(Submitted on May 8, 2025, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)to put an end to the violent competition.
