Fire Wells on the Guilford Green
Fire safety was uppermost in the minds of early Guilford residents, and for this purpose, deep fire wells were dug on the Green for a water supply. There remains evidence of three of these wells, capped by square slabs of concrete and also by a circular millstone. Can you find them?
