Agnes Dickinson Lee
In 1781, Agnes Lee fired the cannon that warned Guilford residents of the British landing at Leete's Island. She courageously protected her daughters from the Tories, who were British defectors living within the community, and assisted her husband, Captain Samuel Lee of the Guilford militia, in other war activities. The Lee House still stands at 1 North Street.
