In 2001, members of the community joined with the Galena Chamber of Commerce to donate a block of the downtown Route 66 main street to construct a park for everyone to enjoy.

Regarding Pappy Litch Park, Galena, Kansas. The park is named for Howard Pappy Litch (1906-1996), a longtime Galena businessman and historian. The Galena native opened a garage in 1937, then moved it to the corner of Main and 5th Streets in 1954. The park is located on the latter site of the garage, which Litch operated for more than 50 years. Litch also was the founder of the Galena Mining and Historical Museum, which now displays many of the historical artifacts
he collected during his lifetime.
