1. A Tribute to Our Quilting Heritage Marker

Inscription. The art of quilting dates back centuries as an early form of recycling. Pieces of worn family clothing, farm feed sacks and other fabrics were hand stitched together to create patchwork designs for warm coverings. Quilts have a role in Clay County history with early community quilting bees as social gatherings and establishing family memories for generations. This sculpture honors the project led by Beverly and John Adkins to create a Barn Quilt Trail with help from volunteers as an enduring art form representing local heritage.
