1. Miss Rose's Bar Marker
Miss Rose's Bar, designed and sculpted by local artist Al Lavergne, was displayed at the 1984 World's Fair held in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Miss Rose's Bar is a symbolic representation and tribute to the significant roles in African American history played by the institutions of neighborhood bars, barbershops and churches. These were all used as venues to promote community harmony during the tumultuous 1950's and 60's.
In 2002, Miss Rose's Bar was found rusting in a field near Basile, Louisiana. She was restored and moved to her new home through the volunteer efforts and donations of the membership of the Rotary Club of Lafayette North. Miss Rose can once again serve goodwill to any and all, excluding no one.
