Boarding houses provided room and board to travelers—similar to hotels. Often run out of a home with additional rooms to spare, renting the rooms to boarders provided extra income for the family. The extra rooms provided visitors a bed as well as a place to gather for a lively meal. Between providing services for boarders and caring for her own household, the woman of the house had plenty of work to do.

Built: ca. 1865
Original Location: Shakopee, MN
Building Name: O'Connor House

What is Shakopee red brick?
