Regarding Henry J. Paulus Park. This park, acquired early in Henry Paulus's 20-year-term as mayor of Lake Zurich, is the only public land located on Lake Zurich, the namesake of this village about 40 miles northwest of Chicago. It was originally called Pleasant Acres Park.

This 1989 marker, erected around the time that Henry Paulus left office after 20 years as Lake Zurich's mayor, ended up only accounting for only about half of Paulus's political career in Lake Zurich. Originally elected as village clerk in 1961, he was appointed a village trustee in 1968. In 1969,

2. Henry J. Paulus

Paulus was elected mayor, overseeing over the next 20 years the acquisition of 32 parks (starting with this one), helping to establish a new water and sewer system and opening the way for the first housing development. Four years after leaving office, he re-entered political life in 1993 as a member of the village's Zoning Board of Appeals, a spot he held until 2015. Paulus died in February 2019 at the age of 89.
