Der Domnapf – erneuert 1490 – war einst Grenzmal zwischen dem Gebiet der Freien Reichsstadt Speyer und dem Immunitätsbereich des Domstifts, zugleich Asyl für flüchtende Missetäter. Hier endete das feierliche Geleit des Bürgermeisters beim ersten Einritt eines neu gewählten Bischofs in die Stadt. Dabei wurde der Napf für alles Volk mit Wein gefüllt. Sein Inhalt beträgt 1580 Liter.

English Translation:
The Cathedral Bowl – renovated in 1490 – was once a border marker between the territory of the Free Imperial City of Speyer and the area of ​​immunity of the Cathedral Chapter—also a refuge for fleeing criminals. This is where the mayor's ceremonial escort ended upon the first entry of a newly elected bishop into the city. The bowl was filled with wine for all the people. Its capacity is 1,580 liters.

Latin text translated - "Here, dear people, read what this bowl, the hollow bowl, means. Whenever a bishop, on horseback accompanied by a distinguished retinue, enters this city for the first time, he pours his welcome drink from it. From the Minster of Our Lady, in the bowl, the mark and boundary mark, stand of spiritual immunity, as an asylum of freedom, then the bowl, as a place of refuge, the guilty altar and port."
