1. Number 23 Clare Cottage Marker
Inscription. In the 1920s when Mr and Mrs Bimbo Pearce lived here, Mrs Pearce kept a small shop selling tobacco, ginger beer, fizzy lemonade and sweets such as gobstoppers, liquorice and large square caramels. Sweets were sold by the pennyworth and one penny bought four of the large caramels. She also sold small cakes made by Mrs Thirza East who lived at Number 25, now part of Acorn Cottage. Mrs Pearce supplied the ingredients, Mrs East did the cooking, Mrs Pearce gave her some of the cakes in return and sold the rest.
