Inscription. The comet is a high-performance racing sailboat designed by naval architect C. Lowndes Johnson in 1932. This 16-foot two-person, sloop-rigged vessel is renowned for its speed agility, and efficient design, making it a popular choice for competitive sailing. Constructed with a hard-chine hull, the come to offers excellent stability and responsiveness, allowing sailors to navigate various wind conditions with precision. Over the years, the class has grown into an international racing fleet, with numerous regattas held worldwide. Its enduring appeal stems from a combination of classic craftsmanship and modern adaptations, ensuring its relevance in the competitive sailing community.

In Stone Harbor, New Jersey comet boats have long been used for both racing and recreational sailing, offering an exciting way to enjoy the water. the comet, a 16-foot, two-person, sloop-rigged racing dinghy is popular for its speed and maneuverability. Local sailing clubs have hosted comet class regattas, with thrilling races that test sailors skills. In the 1940s and '50s, competitions like the Commodore Cup were held in Stone Harbor and Wildwood
