The gift barn is not original to the site, but was moved there around 1900. Probably dating from the 1830's. It has a Dutch Gambrel Roof along with rustic post and beam construction. It once housed a blacksmith shop. After Byers took over the property, they ran a Bait and Tackle shop in the barn for a number of years. Currently now it is used for the selling of antiques and penny candy.
Farm House
The site was originally occupied in May of 1825 by German Immigrant, Abram Walrod, who erected a log cabin beside the Huron River. Abram was the first European Resident of Commerce Township. The next recorded inhabitant of the property was Frederick Peck, who built the current farm house in 1849. He lived there for almost 60 years until his death in 1908. His daughter, Grace Germine, was the next owner of the house.
The parents of June Byers purchased the 2.3 acre property in 1932 for use as a summer cottage. June Byers lived on the property from 1932 to 2007 affectionately known also as "Duckville" for the large volume of wild ducks that migrate there. Commerce Township. purchased the property in 1998.
