80-Pound Railroad Rail. . Most light rail used in the United States was replaced in the 20th century as trains began to get heavier. Today's track size range from 112-pound to 140-pound rail (per every three feet). The pieces seen here were removed in 2016 from a section of track located at The Andersons in Union City, Tennessee, to make way for a heavier, 112-pound track. They were pulled from a portion of the Canadian National railway that is used to load grain. At one time, this railway was a part of the NC&StL Railway main line to Hickman, Kentucky. In fact, the track once ran through where our present-day Discovery Park is located.
