1. Dedication Marker

Inscription.
This Statue of Liberty, a bronze replica one fifth the size of the original, was commissioned by Frank Park Samford as the symbol for the company he founded -Liberty National Life Insurance Company. Created by sculptors Archer and Lee Lawrie, the statue was cast in Sommervoire Haut Marne France. In 1958 it was placed atop Liberty National's home office building in Birmingham and then moved to this location and dedicated on July 4, 1989.

Carrying the torch of leadership as his father had, Frank Park Samford, Jr. transformed Liberty National into Torchmark Corporation, one of nation's largest diversified financial companies.

This statue and its surroundings are dedicated to Frank P. Samford, Frank P. Samford, Jr. and the other members of the Torchmark gallery of leaders: Leo E. Bashinsky, Dr. John W. Beeson, Ralph W.
