1. A Trail to Adventure Marker
Each state along the North Country National Scenic Trail offers visitors a realm of outdoor opportunities. In the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, the trail enters from the south at the Mackinac Bridge and St. Ignace, traverses the Hiawatha National Forest, meanders through Tahquamenon Falls State Park, and winds along the Lake Superior shoreline in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
The Trail continues west through Marquette where it returns to the woods for real solitude in some of the most remote and rugged segments of the trail including the McCormick Wilderness, Ottawa National Forest and the Porcupine Mountains. As one approaches the Wisconsin border, waterfalls abound along the Presque Isle and Black Rivers. An adventurous spirit is all you need to enjoy the "U.P." section of the North Country National Scenic Trail.
The North Country National Scenic Trail is the longest national scenic trail in the country. Every step of the trail's 4,600 miles is an adventure. You can hike its length from New York to North Dakota. Find your path through rugged mountains, historic towpaths, rural landscapes, and vast prairies.
