Legacy Walk 3 encompasses an area of campus dedicated to science and advances in scientific research. The walk includes heritage buildings and new structures that together have created one of the nation’s finest science complexes.

The Paul A.M. Dirac Science Library is named in honor of the Nobel Prize winner known as the father of modern physics. Dirac joined Florida State’s faculty in 1971. Across Call Street are Fisher Lecture Hall and the Hoffman Teaching Laboratory. Further south is the Chemistry Building, which opened in 2008, greatly expanding research and programs in the molecular sciences. Southwest of Chemistry is Duxbury Hall, home of the College of Nursing.

Also on Call Street are the Dittmer Chemistry Laboratory and the Kasha Laboratory, which houses the Institute of Molecular Biophysics.

Excerpt:  The Paul A. M. Dirac Science Library is located amongst the math and science buildings of FSU and supports STEM-related research. Completed in 1989, it was named for Nobel Prize winning physicist Paul AM Dirac who taught at FSU in his later years. It houses collections for disciplines such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, botany, biology as well as health and animal sciences. There are also applied sciences including technology, textiles, food and environmental sciences. Five STEM subject librarians are available to provide scholars with research consultations, data management support, library instruction and other services.

founders of quantum mechanics. Dirac laid the foundations for both quantum electrodynamics and quantum field theory. He was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge and a professor of physics at Florida State University. Dirac shared the 1933 Nobel Prize in Physics with Erwin Schrφdinger for "the discovery of new productive forms of atomic theory".
