This iron furnace or "bloomery" was built in 1831. The mill operated three forges and produced about three tons of wrought iron per day. During the Civil War years (1861-1865) the mill produced over 2,100 tons of iron. When it closed in 1890 this furnace was the last operating iron works in Vermont.
