Amsterdam in Montgomery County, New York — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
South Side
Port Jackson came to life once traffic began to flow on the Erie Canal in the early 1820s. The Brockway turning basin, a dry dock, stores and warehouses served passengers' and boatmen's needs. Railyards for the NY WS&B Railway made it an even busier place. Port Jackson became the city's fifth ward when annexed. by Amsterdam in 1888.
