Eighth World Boy Scout Jamboree
The Eighth World Scout Jamboree, the first World Jamboree outside of Europe, was held on this site August 18 - 28, 1955 attended by some 11,000 Scouts from 71 countries and colonies.
The Jamboree was officially opened by His Excellency the Right Honourable Vincent Massey, Governor-General of Canada, in his capacity of Chief Scout for Canada on Saturday, August 20, 1955.
This plaque commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Jamboree was unveiled September 17, 2005.
Le huitième Jamboree scout mondial, le premier à prendre place à l'extérieur de l'Europe, a été tenu ici du 18 au 28 août 1955 et a attiré quelque 11 000 jeunes venant de 71 pays et colonies différents.
L'ouverture officielle du Jamboree a été déclarée par son Excellence le très honorable Vincent Massey, Gouverneur général du Canada, en tant que chef-scout du Canada le samedi 20 août 1955.
Cette plaque commémorant le 50e anniversaire du Jamboree a été dévoilée le 17 septembre 2005.

Try to ignore the cannon... the brown plaque is on a post in the distant left, adjacent to the walking path (which leads to the parking at the dead-end of Mary Street), left of the gun shed and just behind a pipe projecting from the earth.
