1. Sgt. Edward Edwin Dodds Marker

Inscription. Resident of Hope Township, he was a volunteer Union soldier with the 21st. New York Cavalry. He received the Congressional Medal of Honour for bravery at Ashby's Gap Virginia, USA on July 19, 1864 for rescuing his wounded captain from certain death in the face of the enemy.

He is the only soldier buried in Canada of the 29 Canadian soldiers who received the Medal of Honour in the Civil War. He is buried in the Canton Cemetery.
