This work by sculptor Yves Trudeau was created for the St. Lawrence Seaway Authority to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the opening of the first Welland Canal in 1829.

It was unveiled September 7, 1979, by the federal Minister of Transport, the Honourable Donald F. Mazankowsi, at a ceremony marking this event.

Cette oeuvre du sculpteur Yves Trudeau fut créée la demande de l'administration de la voie maritime du Saint-Laurent pour rappeler le 150 ieme anniversaire de l'ouverture du premier canal de Welland en 1892.

Elle fut dévoilée le 7 septembre 1979 par le ministre fédéral des transports, L'honorable Donald F. Mazankowski, lors d'une cérémonie commémorant cet événement.
