1. Holy Child Jesus Convent and School Marker

Inscription. In 1875 nuns of the Roman Catholic Society of the Holy Child Jesus bought 23 Winckley Square, the former home of Thomas Batty Addison, and opened a school for young women.

The girls' convent school grew and expanded, eventually filling the whole block between East Cliff and Garden Street.

By 1962 the Convent School reached a peak of 850 pupils. The Convent School site closed in 1981, and the order closed the Preston Convent in 2015.
