1. Western College Marker

Inscription. Between 1853 and 1974 the Western College, founded as the Western Female Seminary, pioneered in women's education, focusing on the liberal arts with a multicultural emphasis.

After the close of the college in 1974, a group of alumnae and friends of the college, in cooperation with Miami University, formed the Western College Alumnae Association, Inc., whose legacy continues today and into the future to support liberal education and multicultural studies at Miami University.

In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Western College Alumnae Association, Inc. June 1999.

2. Western College Marker
Western College, was a women's and later coed liberal arts college in Oxford, Ohio, between 1855 and 1974. Initially a seminary, it was the host of orientation sessions for the Freedom Summer in 1964. It was absorbed by Miami University in 1974 after dwindling finances. Now known as the Western Campus of Miami University, it was designated a U.S. Historic district known as the Western Female Seminary Historic District in 1979.
