Since 1891, the Garden has evolved into a stunning landscape comprising more than 50 gardens and collections.
Since its founding in 1891, The New York Botanical Garden has become an iconic botanical garden and an urban oasis. The natural beauty of the 250-acre landscape centered on a 50-acre, old-growth forest is enhanced by formal gardens, plant collections, and modern and historic buildings. The Garden was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1967, ensuring that its picturesque gardens and vistas would be preserved for future generations. Since then, the Lillian and Amy Goldman Stone Mill has also been honored with this designation, as well as being named a New York City Landmark. Other structures on Garden grounds with this distinction include the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, LuEsther T. Mertz Library, Lillian Goldman Fountain of Life, and Tulip Tree Allιe.
