New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx in Bronx County, New York — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
Jane Watson Irwin Perennial Garden
Lynden B. Miller, public garden designer and NYBG Trustee, redesigned this garden in 1987. Miller had designed public gardens in all five boroughs of New York City, including the Conservatory Garden in Central Park. The Perennial Garden's mixed borders combine herbaceous perennials with ornamental grasses, bulbs, annuals, shrubs, and small trees. Miller and NYBG curators experiment with new plants throughout the year to ensure beautiful colors, textures, and fragrances in every season.
Yew hedges divide the Perennial Garden into a series of golden "rooms." As you pass from one room to the next, observe the new palette of color and texture. Each room showcases a unique color scheme or seasonal scheme in the style of traditional English mixed borders.
The Jane Watson Irwin Perennial Garden is a gift of Helen Watson Buckner and the Watson and Irwin Families.
