Ehemalige Hufschmiede Am Vilstor
⎯⎯⎯
Former Blacksmith’s Workshop At the Vils Gate
Inscription.
In the Middle Ages, the blacksmith was located directly by the city gate for short, convenient access. Because of the high risk of fire, the smithy stood close to the nearby Vils River. Records show the smithy was continuously in operation from 1629 until the 1970s. In addition to the blacksmith, there were also specialized smiths in the Middle Ages — including weaponsmiths, nailmakers, and cartwrights.
