Inscription. Welcome
This public facility was built by the Friends of Chrisholm and MetroParks of Butler County to provide needed amenities for visitors to this historic site, AND to demonstrate an innovative way to conserve our water. We have abundant, quality water in Butler County, thanks to the Great Miami River and its Aquifer. But we use more water as our population increases and we develop agricultural land for residential and industrial usage. This stresses the availability and quality of our water. The composting restroom uses no water, which saves thousands of gallons of water annually.

How This Restroom Works
These composting toilets do not use a septic system, chemicals, sewer or water lines. Waste is deposited in a drum where it decomposes into nutrients and essential minerals that can then be returned to the soil to enrich and fertilize. Management of the restroom includes the regimen described in the diagram below.

Why A Composting Toilet?
• Water resources are conserved.
• Waste decomposes into nutrients that enrich the soil.
• Waste volume is reduced 95% and recycled.
• Converts organic matter to its essential minerals or fertilizer.
• No chemicals, septic systems, sewer or water lines required.

source of your drinking water and care about it.
• Buy re-usable products rather than disposables.
• Run dishwashers and washing machines only when full.
• Buy water/energy-efficient appliances.
• Turn off the tap while brushing teeth or washing dishes.
• Minimize shower times.
Millions of people, doing these little things, I will make a difference.

This green restroom is a gift to all of us from our far-sighted and generous donors. The Friends of Chrisholm, a volunteer group that works with MetroParks to preserve and improve this site, provided the leadership and initial investment for this project.
