Inscription. Built in 1849, the Milk House was the center of the small-scale dairy business here at the North Family of White Water Shaker Village. The Shakers separated cream from the milk and made butter and cheese on the upper level. The cheese and molds for the cheese would have been stored here. Dairy items were stored in crockery jars in the stone and brick troughs located in the cellar. Items were preserved as the cold water flowed through the troughs.
