1. The Leechburg Cemetery Marker
Inscription. Est. 1864 on land obtained from John Klingensmith & Addison Leech during the “Rural Cemetery Movement”. The original town cemetery, located on 2nd Street from Center Ave. to Siberian Ave. was brought to this location. The John A. Hunter Post No.123 of the G.A.R. was established to receive veterans of the Civil War. There are 47 Union and 2 Confederate soldiers at this place. Veterans of The War of 1812, WWI, WWII, and the Korean War are also laid to rest here. The 5-acre site is the final resting place of many pioneering families of Leechburg. Town founder David Leech and early tin-plate manufacturer William Rogers, the first man to use natural gas in the manufacture of iron are among them. Final burial occurred in 1996.
