The Old Palace

The Old Palace
Around 1060, Duke of Normandy William made Caen one of his principal residences. He built his palace in the castle, which traditionally comprised a reception hall for the court, private apartments and a palatine chapel. The foundations of the buildings uncovered during archaeological excavations in the 1960s can still be seen nowadays. Subsequent research suggests that the palace was a more complex ensemble. The interpretation of these remains is therefore still open to question.

Alter Palast
