1. Duty - Honor - Country Marker

Inscription. This monument is dedicated to the women and men of the Ute Indian Tribe who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States and for those in the future. They did their DUTY even in times when they were not considered citizens of this country. They served with HONOR bringing great credit upon themselves and their people. They served to protect their COUNTRY against all enemies foreign and domestic. They served without hesitation and with distinction because they understood the need to defend one's own land, and they understood fundamental concepts of fighting for life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness. So it is today the same concept and commitment to serve their country and their people.

"For us, warriors are not what you think of as warriors. The warrior is not someone who fights, because no one has the right to take another's life. The warrior, for us, is one who sacrifices himself for the good of others. His task is to take care of the elderly, the defenseless, those who cannot provide for themselves, and above all, the children, the future of humanity".
