1. Treasure Mountain Inn Marker

Inscription. In May of 1964, plans were announced to construct Park City's first modern hotel, to be called the Treasure Mountain Inn. Excitement over the fledgling ski area, Treasure Mountains (aka Park City Mountain Resort), fueled a building boom. The Inn was erected along Upper Main Street where Welsh, Driscoll, and Buck's Mercantile once stood. Costing over $1,000,000, the Inn was easily the most impressive building on Main Street, a sharp contrast to the dilapidated mining-era structures around it. The Inn opened to visitors in February 1965, with a grand ceremony that attracted 4,000 visitors, including a ribbon cutting by 1948 Olympic skier 'Dev' Jennings and an opening address by US Senator Frank Moss. That day, hundreds of children enjoyed riding in Summit County's first elevator. The Inn introduced a new standard in lodging, using the most modern conveniences and a motif that saluted Park City's mining bonanza days. Today the Inn continues to operate as a hotel, and though modernized, a few treasures from its past can be found in its lobby and hallways.
