1921 to 2004
Carlton R. Sickles served the people of Montgomery County and Maryland for 49 years as a member of the United States House of Representatives, Maryland House of Delegates, and both the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and Strathmore Boards of Directors. Known as "The Father of Metro," his visionary leadership left a lasting legacy of civic and cultural achievement in the region.
