R.K. Meisjesschool met kapel
⎯⎯⎯
Catholic Girls School With Chapel
Inscription.
In 1700, three medieval houses were merged into one large building. It is likely that one of the city's 350 breweries was once located here, because the word 'anchor' in the name 'Het Dubbeld Ancker' indicates a beer barrel of a certain size. The current facade in empire style dates from around 1800. This style was strongly influenced by the antiquities that Emperor Napoleon had brought from Egypt to Paris. Shortly after 1850, the 'R.K. Instelling voor Chariteit' (Roman Catholic Charity Institution) established itself here. In 1879, number 25 was added to the complex and rebuilt into a chapel. Franciscan nuns occupied themselves with education for girls and care for the sick in these buildings until 1962.
