In 1700 werden drie middeleeuwse huizen samengevoegd tot één groot pand. Waarschijnlijk was er ooit een van de 350 brouwerijen van de stad gevestigd, want het woord 'anker' in de naam 'Het Dubbeld Ancker' duidt een biervat van een bepaalde grootte aan. De huidige gevel in empirestijl dateert van rond 1800. Deze stijl was sterk beinvloed door de oudheden die keizer Napoleon uit Egypte naar Parijs liet brengen. Kort na 1850 vestigde zich hier de 'R.K. Instelling voor Liefdadigheid'. In 1879 werd nummer 25 bij het complex getrokken en verbouwd tot kapel. Franciscaanse nonnen hielden zich in deze gebouwen tot 1962 bezig met onderwijs voor meisjes en ziekenzorg.

In 1700, three medieval houses were merged into one large building. It is likely that one of the city's 350 breweries was once located here, because the word 'anchor' in the name 'Het Dubbeld Ancker' indicates a beer barrel of a certain size. 1850, the 'R.K. Instelling voor Chariteit' (Roman Catholic Charity Institution) established itself here. In 1879, number 25 was added to the complex and rebuilt into a chapel. Franciscan nuns occupied themselves with education for girls and care for the sick in these buildings until 1962.
