1. Martin Harris Grave Marker

Inscription. In Clarkston Cemetary, Cache Co., Utah is the grave of Martin Harris. One of the three witnesses to the Book of Mormon who testified that a heavenly messenger showed them the Plates of gold and the engravings thereon, from which Joseph Smith translated the book.

Martin Harris was an intimate associate of Joseph Smith in the early history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. A mortgage of three thousand dollars on his farm Provided money for the Printing of the first edition of the Book of Mormon. With Oliver Cowdery and David Whitmer, the other two of the three witnesses, he assisted in the selection of the original Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in 1835. At the invitation of Brigham Young, he came to Utah in 1870 and settled at Clarkston. He died July 10, 1875, at the age of 92, reaffirming his testimony on his deathbed.
