Moses Dunning Stivers (1828-1895)
Abolitionist, newspaper publisher, ally to General Van Wyck during the Civil War, merchant/druggist and educator. Leading citizen holding many civic and political offices throughout eleven presidencies including U.S. Congressman in 1889. Sons Lewis S. and John D. erected this "Middletown Daily Times" building in 1896.
