1. George Washington's Tenement House Marker
Inscription. On 9 May 1763 George Washington purchased the ½ acre lot then known as plat 112 located at the northwest corner of Pitt and Prince Streets as an investment for the sum of 38 pounds. In July 1797 the lot was divided into 9 parcels offered for rent at $3 per foot of street frontage. In August 1799 Washington leased this property to Ezra Lunt for $73 per year. When George Washington died on 14 December 1799 this property was conveyed in his will to Martha Washington.
