Inscription.
The "Poetry and Nature Trail" at The Frost Place was begun in 1997. When Frost lived here almost all the land was meadow, but it has experienced dramatic change over the years. Like much of the surrounding farmland, it was allowed to revert back to nature; something to which Frost perhaps would not object. Recent events further altered the character of the site-in 2007 two dramatic windstorms knocked down approximately 60% of the canopy of the forested area. These windstorms significantly set back all that had occurred to develop the trail over the prior eight years. Almost all of the 175 native perennials (genseng, twinflower, bunchberry, goldenseal, trilliums, etc.) that had been planted were lost. Downed trees and debris damaged the trail. Since this event, restoration work has been ongoing. The destruction provided an opportunity to strengthen the trail and enhance your experience. Under the guidance of a forester, downed trees have been cleared, and the trail has been rebuilt and resurfaced. Plaques containing the poetry of Frost have been placed along the path.

Frost "botanized" all of his life, walking through the mountains, meadows, and trails of New Hampshire His connection to this place, to the flora and land, to New Hampshire is central to much of his work. Enjoy your walk though Frost's landscape and the samples
